Typical applications of
TOXFREE® LSZH FR-N1X1G1 Flex
UK Building Regulations, European CPR and worldwide electrical national codes increasingly mandate LSZH cables in public spaces and high-occupancy buildings—making FR-N1X1G1 flex not just better performance, but often a regulatory requirement. Provide minimal smoke emission (enabling clearer evacuation routes and safer escape conditions during fires), prevent the release of corrosive or chlorine-based toxic gases, and reduces potential for smoke inhalation injuries.
This combination eliminates the need for separate cable specifications, simplifying procurement and ensuring compliance across UK, European and worldwide installations.
The LSZH outer sheath prevents corrosive halogen emissions that could damage sensitive servers, networking equipment, and storage systems worth millions. Minimal smoke production during fire incidents maintains visibility for emergency response and protects delicate electronic components. Class 5 flexibility facilitates installation through raised floors, cable trays, and tight server rack configurations. XLPE insulation ensures reliable 90°C operation under sustained high loads typical of data centre power distribution.

FAQ's TOXFREE® LSZH FR-N1X1G1 Flex
The designation FR-N1X1G1 is a French standard code that identifies a low-voltage electrical cable with improved fire resistance (non-fire-propagating), designed without halogens and with high safety characteristics. This means that the cable does not propagate flame or fire, emits little smoke, and does not release toxic gases if combustion occurs. The cable complies with the French standard NF C 15-100, relating to fire safety.
It also complies with the standard relating to safety in Public Access Buildings and the regulations relating to high-rise buildings.
Yes. FR-N1X1G1 cables comply with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and are classified Cca-s1,d1,a1, which means they:
• do not propagate fire,
• produce little smoke,
• emit very little corrosive or toxic gas.
They also meet specific French standards such as NF C 15-100 (related to safety), ERP, IGH, NF C32-070, and NF C32-323 for power distribution cables.
A Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) cable is designed to low corrosive gases emission in the event of a fire, unlike some standard cables. This reduces risks to people and sensitive equipment in densely populated areas.
The FR-N1X1G1 flex and R2V cables (equivalent to the French standard) are both rated 0.6/1 kV, making them interchangeable for low-voltage power distribution applications. The main differences lie in their construction standards and fire resistance: the R2V uses PVC materials (French standard NF C 32-102), while the FR-N1X1G1 flex uses XLPE/LSZH polyolefin materials compliant with major French and European standards. It complies with safety standards for Public Access Buildings, regulations for high-rise buildings and public spaces, and fire safety regulations (NF C 15-100).
In French projects requiring LSZH performance, particularly in infrastructure or commercial building construction, the FR-N1X1G1 flex is increasingly specified as a complement to or replacement for the R2V.
The cable requirements will come into effect one year after the publication of the decree, i.e., on May 17, 2025. The NF C 15-100 standard sets out the main safety and risk prevention requirements for public access buildings and high-rise buildings.
• Protection against electric shock, overvoltage, and fire hazards.
• Mandatory grounding and appropriate protective devices to limit dangers to people and property.
• Verification and certification of the conformity of installations by accredited bodies such as CONSUEL, Socotec, APAVE, or Bureau Veritas before any power is applied.
The NF C 15-100 standard for public access buildings and high-rise buildings imposes strict requirements on electrical safety, cable quality, fire prevention, and the integration of new technologies, with strong European harmonization and rigorous control of installation conformity.
Yes. Compared to standard cables such as R2V, the FR-N1X1G1 offers:
• improved fire safety (no fire propagation)
• low smoke and toxic gas emissions
• enhanced CPR compliance, making it particularly suitable for high-occupancy or sensitive areas.
• Compliant with public access building regulations, high-rise building regulations, and NF C 15-100 (regulations concerning the safety, reliability, and conformity of electrical installations).
In the event of a fire, it does not release hydrochloric acid gas or dense black smoke.
Compliant with IEC 60332 (flame propagation), IEC 61034 (low smoke emission), and IEC 60754 (halogen free) standards.
Compliant with CPR Euroclass Cca, B2ca or Dca depending on the sheath compound specifications.
The main difference lies in the conductor structure. The FR-N1X1G1 flexible cable uses stranded flexible conductors (Class 5 according to IEC 60228), designed to withstand bends and repeated movement without conductor fatigue. The standard cable uses solid or stranded rigid conductors (Class 1 or 2), designed for fixed installations where the cable remains stationary once laid.
The FR-N1X1G1 flexible cable is easier to install. Its Class 5 stranded construction allows it to be run around bends, pulled through conduits, and integrated into cable management systems with significantly less mechanical force than the rigid version. This results in reduced installation time and a lower risk of insulation damage during pulling.
If your application involves mobile equipment, retractable connections, or frequent access for maintenance, the FR-N1X1G1 flexible cable is the appropriate choice.
The R2V uses PVC insulation and an outer PVC sheath, which produces toxic and dense smoke in the event of a fire.
The FR-N1X1G1 flex uses XLPE insulation and an outer sheath made of LSZH polyolefin, offering superior fire safety. Where the use of LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) materials is mandatory under applicable building regulations or specifications (increasingly common in European public infrastructure), it is the compliant replacement.
The FR-N1X1G1 cable uses XLPE insulation, which offers a maximum conductor operating temperature of 90°C and a short-circuit temperature of 250°C, exceeding that of PVC. The R2V cable, which uses PVC insulation, is limited to a conductor operating temperature of 70°C and a short-circuit temperature of 160°C.
The FR-N1X1G1 flexible cable is clearly recommended for data center environments. Data centers require LSZH cabling to protect server equipment from corrosive halogen gases in the event of a fire, to comply with increasingly stringent fire safety standards, and to accommodate the dense, flexible cabling configurations typical of raised floors, cable ladders, and PDU connections. PVC-based R2V cable does not meet these requirements. The FR-N1X1G1 flexible cable combines the necessary fire performance with the installation flexibility essential in high-density data infrastructures.
Both cables are halogen free, flame retardant, and designed for fire-sensitive environments, but they come from different national standardization traditions. The N2XH flexible cable complies with the German standard DIN VDE 0276-604 and harmonized IEC standards. The FR-N1X1G1 flexible cable is a French standard cable governed by UTE C 32-070 and NF standards, using XLPE insulation with an LSZH polyolefin sheath and a rated voltage of 0.6/1 kV.
In practical terms, both cables offer equivalent fire safety performance (low smoke emission, halogen-free, flame-resistant), but project specifications in France often require the FR-N1X1G1 flexible cable, while pan-European or German-origin projects refer to the N2XH. Mentioning both designations in your technical documentation will allow you to reach both audiences.
The substantial differences are regulatory and commercial: the flexible cable FR-N1X1G1 is specified in the French NF standards and commonly referenced in French public procurement and infrastructure projects, while the flexible cable N2XH is the corresponding designation harmonized at the German/IEC level.
