An increasing number of solar installers require Cca class cables to comply with the European standard. In public places rooftop installations (supermarkets, hospitals and similar) solar cable feeds the transformers which are located inside the building, never on the roof. Therefore, according to the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), minimum fire reaction class required for cables must be Cca.
In self-consumption solar installations throughout Europe, it is also becoming compulsory to require CPR Cca class, to provide maximum safety in the event of a fire.
WHY IS CPR IMPORTANT IN ROOFTOP INSTALLATIONS?
According to the European Construction Products Regulation (CPR), the Cca classification is the highest fire safety regulation for public places. In many European countries, it is already mandatory to install Cca rated cables in public places and in false ceilings or raised floors, following the CPR application.
In Spain, according to the Guide for the CPR implementation published by FACEL, (Spanish Association of Electrical Cable Manufacturers, to which Top Cable belongs): “it is obligatory to install Cca classified cables in public places (page 26) and false ceilings or raised floors (page 27)”.
In the Guide “Basic Considerations for the Application of the CPR to Low-Voltage Energy Cables” (page 10), also published by FACEL, states that “The conductors to be used in the execution of interior electrical installations in residential buildings, homes, work premises and sanitary purposes places, whatever their occupancy capacity, must be non-fire propagating and with reduced smoke emission and opacity. The cables shall be of the minimum fire reaction class Cca-s1b,d1,a1.
Always ask your manufacturer/supplier for the Performance Declarations (DoP) to verify that the CPR certification is appropriate and that the cable meets all the necessary European requirements.
