TRANSPARENCY<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Leaders interviewed indicated that they kept their teams up to date on the organisation\u2019s state, as well as on the priorities and principles that would guide decisions at all levels.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2-communication\"><\/span>2. <strong>COMMUNICATION<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Virtual video conferencing has remained the norm since the return of employees to the workplace, sometimes even when all the assistants are physically present in the same office. The new situation has emphasized a results-based approach over the outdated presence-based model.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7-lifelong-learning\"><\/span>7. <strong>LIFELONG LEARNING<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most of the leaders we interviewed believe that lifelong learning and a growth mentality will be crucial for the employees of the future.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8-rethinking-employee-performance-evaluation\"><\/span>8. <strong>RETHINKING EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to most of the leaders in our study, the pandemic presented a unique opportunity to observe how senior and middle managers responded to the new challenges and allowed them to make preliminary judgements about the future leadership potential of managers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9-volunteer-options\"><\/span>9. <strong>VOLUNTEER OPTIONS<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Yum China, a fast-food chain that closed most of its outlets in Wuhan, decided to keep some open to serve medical staff. Aware that some employees and their families would be concerned about the high risk of working in these outlets, the company decided to ask for volunteers, not knowing if they would get the necessary numbers. To their surprise, within two hours of the word being spread, they had 900 volunteers, far exceeding the needs.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"10-helping-employees-to-increase-resilience\"><\/span>10. <strong>HELPING EMPLOYEES TO INCREASE RESILIENCE<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many of the leaders surveyed reported that many employees were experiencing high levels of anxiety and lack of motivation. On the other hand, they also expressed almost universal agreement that dealing with the pandemic had engendered higher levels of tolerance, patience and empathy within their organisations: seeing colleagues on video calls at home, dressed informally, with family members and pets making appearances, for example, making interactions more personal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5267 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.topcable.com\/blog-electric-cable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/covid_worker4.png\" alt=\"COVID sector construcci\u00f3n\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5267 lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/www.topcable.com\/blog-electric-cable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/covid_worker4.png\" alt=\"COVID sector construcci\u00f3n\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.topcable.com\/blog-electric-cable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/covid_worker4.png 800w, https:\/\/www.topcable.com\/blog-electric-cable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/covid_worker4-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.topcable.com\/blog-electric-cable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/covid_worker4-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/www.topcable.com\/blog-electric-cable\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/covid_worker4-624x416.png 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"conclusions\"><\/span><strong>CONCLUSIONS<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Many of the challenges faced by Chinese companies in the face of Covid-19 are here to stay.
